Paint Jobs: Normal Pattern: Gray Phase (Hypoxanthic)
Also called: steel-grays, hypoxanthic
Often spoken of in field guides but rarely seen. Our breeding stock's parents come from north of Pandale , TX in Crockett County ( FM 2083). You can see one of the parents of our stock as an adult in the May 2006 issue of Reptiles Magazine at the top of page 38.
Like most of the locality color morphs, Pandale Grays start out in life as tan or brown in color and change into their new color with age. In an e-mail from our friend Mike Price he said, " the Pandale animals will "gray-out" as they get older... I really like the faded patterns on those animals."
We do too! The really distinct thing about baby Pandale Grays is that their pattern is very faded, as Mike mentioned.
We are really very excited to have these in our collection.
Note: These are NOT axanthics or "silvers", but are the wild gray/tan phase, similar to the Franklin Mtn. steel-grays spoken of in field guides.
The bottommost normally patterned animal is a Pandale Gray baby. Notice the faded pattern of these compared to other normal subocs. Photo and animals by Michael Price and used by permission.
